Ice Cream in a Bag
This is a fun activity to do with your nieces and nephews, especially in the summertime, but they’ll love it just about anytime of the year!
It is simply easy making ice cream in a plastic bag! Who would have thought ice cream could be so easy to make? And so tasty! The kids will be very excited to try their homemade concoctions.
For one batch you will need:
2 cups of heavy whipping cream (you can also use half and half but the ice cream won’t be as creamy and smooth)
½ cup of sugar
1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
Large bag of ice
Rock salt
1 Quart sized plastic zip lock bag
1 Gallon sized plastic zip lock bag
Combine the cream, sugar and vanilla and pour the mixture into a quart sized plastic zip lock bag. Take a gallon sized zip lock bag and partially fill it with ice. Add 1 cup of rock salt to the ice (this will melt the ice similarly to how salt melts snow). Now place the zip lock bag filled with the ice cream mixture inside the ice bag.
Now comes the fun part – you and the kids will need to shake the bag vigorously for 15 minutes. Take turns shaking it as hard as each of you can until you see your ice cream forming which should be after between 15 and 20 minutes. Take it out and eat. YUM! You can even freeze it overnight if there is any leftover – but that's doubtful.
