Happy New Year! January 1 has always been a special day for almost all my life: its the day that Lizzie & Lee Lee's mommy was born 5 years younger than me. So each New Year's Day we get together to celebrate with cake and ice cream.
On this New Year's Day, our mom decided she wanted photos of herself with each of her children's families, and since I've got the fanciest camera in the family, it was recruited to take the photos and me to set up the shots.
Have you ever tried to pose infants and toddlers?
Bella was having a meltdown; no way, no how was she going to cooperate and pose with Mommy, Daddy, and Memere, no matter how much I (and the other adults) bribed her. We finally settled for a picture of the adults with her, upside down, with her beloved Moose covering "London and France" aka her pull ups.
Lee Lee was operating with no naps since she awoke at 4 am and it was closing in at 10 hours later. She simply would not sleep but oh boy was she sleepy! And what a good find: Lee Lee discovered her fists last week, which is a good thing, as she's drooling up a storm with her bottom front teeth closing in on the surface. She's so fond of sucking on her right fist these days. If its a good moment, she'll use her fists to pull her bib up into her mouth and bite down for all she's worth.
Lee Lee didn't want to take her fists out of her mouth. My sister stood besides me and the camera on the tripod, trying to get Lee Lee to look and smile while she sat on our mom's lap. Lee Lee finally got the hint, dropped her fists, beamed at her mother, and dissolved in a pile of giggles. It was priceless - and I got the shot, except that Lee Lee was moving so fast that even on my fast setting, she came out blurry in the photo. It's a priceless expression, though.
Lizzie also turned on the charm for her posing, although she would not sit until she was certain Lee Lee was situated and comfortable, which was the wild card. All in all, it was a good shot, and even I got in front of the lens for a picture with my mom. I think the last photo we have of the two of us, I'm sitting on her knee!

Today I talked to my sister on the phone. Big things going on: the New England Patriots were playing the last regulation football game of the year, and one of our star players had gotten hurt. My sister was ticked and called to wail about it. (Her husband is a football fan, but he cheers for the Washington Redskins, so we don't talk to him during football season. *smile*) Rue Rue was running around in the background getting into trouble, so my sister put the phone down next to Mickie and went to tend to Rue Rue.
Mickie was sitting in his swing, watching the game - all 3 months of him. He was really into it, too - giggling and cooing and talking up a storm. I asked him if he wanted a football and he cooed. I asked him if he was ready to run after the ball, and he burped. But when the opposing team got the ball from our team, I couldn't help but laugh when Mickie started to fuss and get upset. Don't tell his daddy!
