Bella is my TV buff out of the three older girls. She loves movies; "Cars" and "Finding Nemo" are up there as the best, but its my fault that she's got a new one. It's turned into quite the family saga of late.
About a month ago I thought Bella might enjoy watching "Happy Feet" and brought it over to watch with her while Mommy took a Bella break. Silly Auntie forgot, however, that "Happy Feet" has a dark theme to it and that some of the scenes might be scary for a two year old.
Bella holds her fists against her ears when she's scared of something, and not 10 minutes into the movie she was saying "sceeeery" and blocking her ears. We had to mute most of the movie during the parts were Skua and the gulls bullied Mumble, or the seals or the whales attacked Mumble, or Lovelace was strutting on his pile of rocks. It was such a scary movie that, only 30 minutes in, I decided it was enough, turned off the video, and took it back home. Bella was so relieved.
Well, she was relieved until she realized that I had taken it home. She starts talking about "they took Mumble's fish" and her parents couldn't figure out what she was talking out. Finally she told them "penguin movie" and she wanted to go to Auntie's house to get it.
Bella was so insistent about the movie that her mother had to call me and ask me to bring the movie back. My SIL was as surprised about her desire to watch the movie as I was, considering how little of it she actually watched. After that, every time I saw Bella, she'd ask me about the penguin movie and when could she watch it?
Two weeks ago I brought the movie back. Bella was going to stay at my mom's house overnight, so she brought the movie with her. With Holly's arrival, Bella hasn't wanted to stray too far away from Mommy's side, and after only a couple of hours at Memere's house, Bella had enough. Sadly, Bella forgot to bring "Happy Feet" back home.
The following day I saw my mother and she gave me the video case, saying that I'd see Bella before she would. That turned out to not be true, as I was just too busy with other things to make a week-day visit.
Last Thursday the phone rang. I picked it up to hear "you bring the penguin movie over, Auntie?" Bella wanted to watch the movie before going to bed. I promised her that I'd give her the movie when I saw her again.
The movie hadn't left my car; it sat there for a week. Sunday afternoon, before I reached my mom's to do laundry, I stopped at my brother's house to deliver the movie. I was at the door step when I shook the jacket and realized it was empty. Bella had already seen that I was at the door so it was too late to do anything about it. She was so excited, jumping up and down, waiting to watch the penguin movie - so I showed her the inside of the cage and the empty slot.
"Do you have the movie hiding over here?" I asked her.
"I don't have the movie," she replied.
"I wonder if you left it at Memere's house," I asked.
"I go see Memere and watch penguin movie," she announced and was on her way out the door before I stopped her. I got my brother to call our mom and see if the disc was in her DVD player... and of course, that's where it was. Bella was certain that Memere wanted to watch it again and that's why she had it and "they stole Mumble's fish - why, Auntie?" she asked.
I returned to the house on my way home from my mom's with the disc and its jacket. Unfortunately for my SIL, she had just tucked Bella into bed for the night when she heard my car pull up. Bella came flying out of her room yelling "penguin movie!"
I made Bella promise that she wouldn't watch the movie until the following morning, when Lizzie would be over and could watch it with her.
Last I heard, she's watching "Happy Feet" 3-5 times a day all week!
