Mother's Day with My Girls

I needed to take a break from helping my friend's parents as they prepared to bury their daughter, so I spent Sunday, Mother's Day, with my mom and local sister.

I spend Sundays with my mom, doing laundry at her house. This weekend, though, the dryer stopped working, so I went to see my sister. She and the girls were just coming home from visiting their other grandmother, but Lizzie and Lee Lee were happy to see me, and even more happy to share some supper giggles with me.

Lee Lee took her little arms and hands, slapped them against my cheeks, and tried to eat my nose. She's got this thing for "chewing" on people; I think its her way of giving kisses. She was insistent that she"kiss" me that day. I'm going to be rich one day after I figure out a way to take her baby prints off my glasses and save them for eternity!

My brother-in-law and his dad finally got the girls' swing set up, and Lizzie had to take me outside to check it out. It was unusually chilly for early May that day, and even though she was shivering, she would not come inside! I finally lured her in by telling her that I heard baby Abbey crying.

Baby Abbey is a doll that our aunt gave to my sister at least 25 years ago. Abby's in good shape, still, and is the size of a 7 pound newborn. Baby Abbey is the doll that's given the honor of growing up with Lizzie: right now, Abby's learning how to potty train.

I bought Lizzie a couple dolly diapers at Christmas time but they don't fit baby Abbey. Her other grandmother was given a set of boy's Pamper's pull ups, so she gave them to Lizzie. They fit Abbey perfectly. Abbey's "potty chair" is a Foldger's can, and it sits in the middle of the living room, right next to the burp cloth that is her toilet paper and a toy plastic container of baby wipes.

Lizzie pulled the pull up off Abbey and gave it to me so I could "rinse out the poop" and turn it right side out. Abbey was a good doll and did her pee in the potty, so she was given a pretend gummy and then Lizzie brought her over for me to put the pull up on.

The pull up has Diego on the front, so I lined it up to put the picture in the front. Somehow I still managed to get the pull up on backwards. My sister grinned and asked Lizzie what Auntie did wrong.

Lizzie put her hands on her hips, cocked her head to one side, and said "Auntie put it ridiculous!" My sister and I just about fell off the couch we laughed so hard!

Lee Lee has not been going to bed well as of late; its been a huge fight for her to sleep. My sister has given up on the baby's 5 pm bedtime and now lets Lee Lee go to bed at 6:30 with Lizzie. My darling Lee Lee just worships her big sister and wants to do everything with her. My sister tells me that it is so cute to see the two of them splashing around in the bath tub!

In other niece news, I think that Holly is going to need a serious wardrobe change in about three days. My SIL, who is nursing, can't seem to get enough into that little tummy. Holly has discovered her smile, and she's been flashing it around to everyone BUT me the past few days. She's also been "ghost nursing" within 15 minutes of finishing nursing; my SIL says she's feeling like a fountain! Holly gulps it all down, and I am quite certain that when I peeked in her bassinet last night and saw her wrapped up like a burrito, she looked longer than she did on Saturday!
