My two-year-old niece is my best friend. I spend 80 percent of my free time with her and/or her sister, playing with her and watching movies with her and hanging out with her. I love it. But I'm a teenage girl. Most of us are more obsessed with our hair and the cute boy we like than anything else. And I'm finding it hard to find a balance these days. I want to hang out with my friends, but I can't bring them around my niece. I've learned one thing from being friends with teenage girls: most friendships DON'T last. It will be hard enough for me to stop being friends with someone if I have to, but to hurt my niece by taking away someone she had grown to like? No. Not going to happen. So there's niece time and there's friend time, and most of the time, niece time wins. Which I love. Just wishing there was a balance, you know? I can't exactly take my niece to high school with me. :)
