Long Distance Auntie, need ideas!

I always said I would never move away from my family....now I live across the country and have such a strained relationship with my niece and nefews. (She is 10 and the boys are 5 & 3).
I thought that when I moved away we could be pen-pals and write all the time but their parents never seem to help them write back.
What are some cool/fun ways to stay in touch minus pen & paper or a telephone? Any ideas?

Skype! Or maybe if they have any sort of gaming system (like Kinect) you can get one too and send them a game that you guys can play 'together' long distance?

I've tried the pen-pal thing too with my nieces who are 400 miles away, but I have also found they don't always write back!

My nieces are old enough to use computers and email so I use email to send them little notes to ask about their latest school project or just talk about everyday things that I miss out on. We also Skype occasionally, though not as often as I'd like.

Once in a while I send care packages, cards, or small gifts not only for holidays and birthdays but also for no reason at all, just so they know I am thinking of them.

For the younger ones I send postcards from everywhere I go: museums, vacations, even small towns usually have postcards. I try and find the craziest ones, write a few silly lines on the back and send it off to them. My one niece (whose 18 now) used to put them up on her bedroom wall.

And how about Facebook for the 10 year old? I am friends with all my older nieces and nephews. I make sure that I am careful not to step on their toes too much and comment about things that are geared towards their friends. But be aware, you may find that the cute nieces and nephews that you know have another side to them once they get older.
