I would say it's normal. When you want to do something nice for someone and you're told not to, that can be upsetting. I wouldn't say you're jealous. I'd say you care.
Can you say that it's a treat for each of their birthdays and you're celebrating both on one random night?

SavvyAuntie, I just want to say that Amy Smllwd gives the best advice and you should put her on your staff! I don't know her personally and she doesn't know that I am writing this (until she sees it) - I just see that all her responses are very compassionate and sensible. She sometimes says exactly what I would but she phrases it better. :)

Oh my goodness! My sister is the same way! If we are in the store and I see something cute I'd like to buy for my niece she always gives me a look and asks me not to buy it. She always says it makes her feel bad. One time I bought BooBoo a box of diapers just to help out and she told me it makes her feel like she can't take care of her daughter. I told her I did it because I wanted to, not because I thought she was incapable of taking care of her daughter. I explained to her that I like to do things for my niece. I get to spoil her.
