To me, the trend seems to be coming from the schools, media, magazines- our kids are OVERWEIGHT... I've noticed around my area (beach area outside Los Angeles) fitness gyms for kids are popping up. These new gyms are exclusive for teens and some of them, have just a huge obstacle course from floor to ceiling the kids can run themselves ragged through while you watch them through the safety nets. I recently visited the YMCA by my house and was amazed! Our family was not Y members when I was a kid, but I remember visiting and in awe of the INDOOR POOL and RACKET BALL courts- so fascinated at the time..But back to present, I was astounded at the Y. They charge per family irregardless of how many members in the immediate family, as long as they're in your household. They have rooms that you and your ELEMENTARY age children can work out in also- there's WII's and a Dance video screen, I was extremely pleased! Day care for the babies, a healthy snack bar, personal trainers for free, indoor track, rock wall, 3 pools with year round swimming lessons, and more. It was the mecca of fitness! Not only is it fun for kids, but ensures exercise for the whole family.
