It's not so crazy, but fun. When they are little, we always have at least one sleepover where we eat only bite size food and watch movies. They all comment years later about the time Aunt Robyn let them have MM's for dinner. (They seem to forget the nutritional things!) One niece still insists that she ate a pound of MM's for dinner. (She didn't.)

And then, when it's time to go to sleep, we spontaneously have a dance party. It's pure delirium. And every new crop of nieces and nephews lovs it.

We had fun re-creating that when the 16 year old came back from her first modeling gig and Aunt Robyn blasted RuPaul's Supermodel of the World as she walked in the door. She and her sister and I broke out into wild dancing while her parents just looked confused.

We made a commercial about how cool central park is - filmed on a rock in the park, natch.

We also do upside down - ice-cream first - lunch.

At the age of 13 my one niece announced she'd like her belly button pierced. I convinced her to wait until she was 16 and then I'd pay for it. When I blinked my eye and she turned 16, I swore to her that I remembered the agreed-upon age was 18! About 6 months prior to her 18th bday, she announced she no longer wanted a belly button ring ...and I sighed with relief. Then she dropped the bombshell that she wanted a tattoo instead! So, after securing permission from the rents we forged ahead designing her a beautiful, well thought-out tattoo. And not only did I take her, I joined the fun and got one myself! Sharing that experience with her ended up being more special than I ever imagined, and it has has pretty much secured my cool aunt status forever!

i think i've done so many things that are crazy, it would be hard to list them! i couldn't begin to know where to start.

my nephew summed it up this way when he was about 7; Sue, you'd be a terrible mother, but, you make a great aunt!. yep, that's it!

I recently took my 9 and 14 year-old nephs to Monday Night Magic, which has been going on for 11 years in Manhattan. It's not exactly racy, but it's also not a kids' show. We did upside down dinner - ginormous ice-cream sundays and then pizza, and then had front row seats.

they felt really cool and i heard they couldn't stop talking about it. i got front row seats even though i knew the main act that night was a knife-throwing act. believe me, i maintained my cool aunt status. heh!
