Dear Savvy Auntie,

I'm the Auntie of a 14-month-old niece and nephew. They were long-awaited in my family. Sadly, my sister was pregnant with twins once before and lost them at 5 1/2 months. Before she lost them, my sister would refer to me as an ‘Auntie of angels,’ and I would refer to them as my angel niece and nephew. Now the angels' would-be birthday is approaching, and I don't know if I should still be referring to them as my angel niece and nephew and to myself as the Auntie of angels. For some reason, is feels weird now that my other niece and nephew have been born.

Auntie of Angels

Dear Auntie of Angels,

You are truly a Savvy Auntie! It must have been comforting for you and your family to refer to you as the Auntie of angels in the face of the terribly sad loss of your niece and nephew at 5 1/2 months; what a touching way to keep their spirits alive. Now, your intuition tells you that the title no longer feels right since your 14-month-old niece and nephew are the center of your attention. Yes! Follow your inclination; but check with your sister first. She might need to hold on a little longer or she might need just this push to help her move on.

Best of Luck,
