This Halloween, What’s the Real Treat for Kids?
Interaction is the real treat for children…and Aunts ….It
gives you a chance to spend some quality time with your nieces and nephews.
This week we review two new books by Scholastic that are perfect for memorable
interactions with the greatest Aunt in the world. You!
We all know what children long for during the month of
October…wearing the coolest costumes and gathering as many treats as possible.
To be different, you can give a treat that is sure to please and become more
than a sugary rush. It is also a special moment shared with your little ones
that will make you their favorite Aunt.
I was looking for some Halloween inspired books for October
and stumbled upon these two finds. They are perfect for some fun interactions
with your nieces and nephews.
The first book is called “The Best Halloween Hunt Ever”
written by John Speirs.
It is a fun book filled with pages of searches and all
geared towards some Halloween fun. You can sit together and locate all the
special things with each other. Your nieces and nephews will love searching for
hidden Halloween treats, pumpkins, and scary creatures. The book also features
mazes and puzzles to solve all with a spooky twist. They will love it and the
time you share with them. Not to mention the book will outlast any chocolates
and candies.
The second book is my all time Halloween favorite. You know
the song “The Twelve Days of Christmas?” Well this book is based on that idea
but it is called “Thirteen ghosts of Halloween” written by Robin Muller and
illustrated by Patricia Storms.
It can be read out loud with your nieces and nephews or sung
together for a fun treat. The colorful and fun illustrations will be a hoot to
look at while you sing. This is one of my favorites and I always end up singing
the song out loud.
Afterwards you can create some fun pumpkins together or work
on their Halloween costumes. To make decorative pumpkins bring along some
orange construction paper and embellishments and markers. Each child can create
a special Jack-o-Lantern that will turn into a special keep sake for that year.
You can even turn this into an annual tradition. Whatever you do the most
important thing to them is the quality time you spend together. It will make
for many wonderful memories that they will take with them as they grow.
Happy Halloween!
