With every new generation comes the phrase: “When I was your age…” Are there ever times that you wish you could take your nieces and nephews back to the days when you grew up so they could experience some of the things that you did? What would you want for them to experience?
We gave our Facebook Auntourage the following situation and asked for their feedback: “AUNTIE UP! The three things from my childhood I would give to my nieces and nephews if I could, are:”
There seemed to be a few common themes that Aunties agreed on throughout. Since Auntie knows best, these ideas must be important. Many Aunties included points about spending time outside without the concerns of safety, seeing loved ones who have passed, and a toy they loved as a child.
A number of aunts remember a time when kids were free to play outside:
Trisha Ptacek: “The ability to play and have fun roaming the neighborhood without worrying.”
Jane Kassens: “Security and safety of being able to bike, walk, play in an environment that needed no adult chaperone.”
Gina Snell: “Running around with neighborhood kids without worry.”
Otherhood remember the toys they played with and other nostalgic things from their childhood. Denae Camacho: “My original Strawberry Shortcake dolls.”
Sarah Louise Nolan: “My colouring books, homemade rose petal perfume.”
Lynn Roberts: “My barbies to my niece and my husband's star wars collection to my nephew.”
And others wished a loved one was still around to meet the children they would have loved.
Amanda Riedel: “To experience even one day with my dad.”
Laina K. Duffee: “Just a day with my mom so they could know her, a day with my grandparents and great grandparents so they could know them and a day so they could see their moms and dads as kids...cause let me tell me you...they would see themselves.”
Michele Lee Villalobos: “His great grandparents.”
So Savvy Aunties, what three things would you like to give your niece or nephew from your childhood? Add yours, here!
