Sure, we all know George Clooney as an award-winning and dashingly handsome actor. But what about George Clooney, the eager-to-learn nephew?
Before George was a superstar, another Clooney stood in the spotlight--his aunt Rosemary. Along with her sister, Betty, Rosemary started her career as a singer and entertainer before hitting the big time. Although she was beloved by many, Rosemary struggled with bipolar disorder for much of her life. But through the ups and downs of her career and personal struggles, Rosemary remained a devoted aunt.
When her sister Betty died suddenly in 1976, Rosemary started helped start a foundation in her sister's name for people coping with traumatic brain injuries. Rosemary continued to travel the world and entertain people until the last years of her life. Her career successes and struggles left a lasting impression on her nephew George (who is the son of her brother Nick).
According to Access Hollywood, George's Aunt Rosemary even helped him make ends meet when her first moved to Los Angeles by letting him stay with her and hiring him as her chauffeur and handyman.
"Before I came to Hollywood I was the son of a famous newsman and my aunt Rosemary had been one of the biggest stars in the music business in her day," he told the Daily Mail. Because of Rosemary, who once starred with him on "ER," he makes sure not to take it for granted. "My aunt also taught me how to keep a perspective on everything that happens to you. So you learn to be humble and not take your success for granted."
When Rosemary passed away in 2002, George served as a pallbearer at her funeral. One thing is for certain, she left a remarkable impact on her nephew by imparting life lessons that he still appreciates today.
