Your nieces and nephews are coming over to make something "fun!" You've baked all the usual chocolate chip cookies, brownies, and chocolate cakes... and now it's time to take it to the next level! Here are five ideas for crazy fun baking days with their favorite Savvy Auntie!
1. Unicorn Poop
A few weekends ago, I baked Unicorn Poop cookies with my nieces. For those who don't know the magic of Unicorn Poop, legend goes that Unicorns poop just like us - only they poop in rainbows! The Unicorn Poop cookies are exactly what you think they should be - cookies in the shape of poop shaped rainbows.
My nieces had spotted these cookies on Youtube when Internet star "Nerdy Nummies" Rosanna Pansino - a total Savvy Auntie - baked them. Did ours turn out as perfectly as hers? No. But they were close! And the number of steps that involved math, science, and most of all - patience - made them even more delicious for this Savvy Auntie.
Check out her recipe and video demonstration here (it's been viewed over 6.7 million times! And if these don't satisfy your little bakers, here are 30 more ways to bake Unicorn Poop!
2. More Rainbows? How About a Rainbow Cake?
So many layers - so much fun! Plus, there's no need to go all fancy in the preparations. Betty Crocker has a recipe for a Rainbow Lawyer Cake here.
Want to go fancy and need inspiration? Savvy Auntie Corey Reiter of Corey Michelle Cakes created this spectacular Circus Cake!
3. Candy Sushi!
Since we're already talking about colorful ways to make dessert, try Candy Sushi! It's like sushi, only it's candy, of course!
This recipe from the Food Network via Rachael Ray (another Savvy Auntie!) includes marshmallows, fruit roll-ups, Rice Krispie Treats (or similar) and licorice, like Twizzlers brand! We couldn't find Rachael Ray's TV show episode segment, but here's one from About.com which is pretty cool, too!
4. Ice Cream in a Bag!
Let's make ice cream! This version is a lot more simple than ones that require an ice cream machine. Food.com has straight forward instructions. Each niece and nephew can take a turn squeezing the bag! And voila! Ice cream! And PS - It's science!
Want to see how it's done? Follow the directions here from Buzzfeed. The Ice Cream in a Bag recipe is at minute 1:45.
5. Freaky Shakes!
Freaky Shakes are taking over the world - and the Internet! They are exactly how they are named - milkshakes that are a little freaky looking and totally freaky delicious! Kids can create their own based on their favorite treats! Here's how to make them, via HowToCookThat.com
