Amy Winehouse’s Goddaughter Speaks Out
Written By Savvy Auntie Staff Writers
Amy Winehouse has garnered a not-so-savvy reputation as a troubled songstress, often photographed stumbling in and out of nightclubs and battling a long struggle with alcohol addiction. The "Rehab" singer recently even had to cancel her European tour after being booed off stage in Belgrade, Serbia.
Throughout all the turmoil, Winehouse still has one steadfast supporter: Her teen goddaughter, Dionne Bromfield. The 15-year-old British soul singer whose second album, Good For the Soul debuted last week, was the first to be signed to Winehouse's Lioness Records two years ago. And she is also the first to defend her godmother against the harsh media spotlight. "I wouldn't even say five percent of the stuff written about her is true," she reportedly told the U.K.'s Company Magazine "All it takes is for her to blink while the press are flashing cameras, and it looks like she's drunk…That's not the Amy I know–the real Amy."
Despite the negative attention, Winehouse has also been a great advocate for her goddaughter, shining a light on her talents as a musician. "The first time I heard Dionne sing, I couldn't believe what I was hearing, such an amazing voice from such a young girl," she told Company. "She's so much better than I was at her age. I'm just so proud of her."
We're glad these two strongly support each other, and hope Bromfield's defense of her godmother isn't in vain.
