Stay Burn-Free for National Grill Month

Everyone loves a good barbecue, so much so, that we can forget that they are a fire hazard. According to the American Burn Association, it’s estimated that outdoor cooking grills alone have caused 6,000 fires, and gas-grills caused 2,700 fires in just one year.
Fire-related accidents can occur in a blink of an eye so Savvy Aunties should always be attentive of where the children are playing.
Here are some tips on how to keep everyone burn-free this summer:
- Protect your nieces and nephews from burns this summer by steering them well away from the general cooking area.
- Set-up grills a safe distance from the children’s general playing area, as well as anything flammable, such as fences and trees.
- Have someone supervise the grill at all times.
- Soak coals in water to avoid potential re-ignition, then dispose of them in a metal container.
- Be careful not to spill any lighter-fluid on yourself or the area around you.
- Educate yourself, and the kids, about fire-safety, and what to do in the event of one.
