With Halloween only a few days away, now’s the perfect time to grab some snacks and curl up with your nieces or nephews and read a scary story or two. For added spookiness, read these at night!
1. Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark by Alvin Schwartz. Aunties of a certain age will remember this book from childhood – and its sequels. These stories are great for kids 8 and up, and as a bonus, they’re illustrated. Bring on the nostalgia!
2. Haunted by Harris Tobias. Suitable for little kids, this ghost story is about a haunted house with some very talented ghosts.
3. Frankenstein Makes a Sandwich by Adam Rex. Have nieces or nephews ages 6 to 9? This book full of poems about famous monsters will bring a giggle out while staying in the spirit of Halloween.
4. Short and Shivery: Thirty Chilling Tales by Katherine Coville. These thirty stories are from all over the world, including some famous classic stories. Ghostly illustrations make it even creepier.
5. Bone Soup by Cambria Evans. This picture book for kids 6 to 9 tells the story about a skeleton boy who’s always hungry – but on Halloween, he finds himself in a new town with nothing to eat...
