Pictures on Wood
Kids love to create artistic things. As a cool auntie you can spend time with them and help them improve their artistic skills. A good way to do it is to create pictures on wood with them. It is very simple to do and fun for both you and your nephews/nieces. And the best part is that they will have something that they can take and hang in their room. Every time they will look at it, they will remember you, and they will be able to show it off to their friends.
So how do you do it?
First, take them to an art supply store and let them choose a wooden surface as their canvas. It could be just a wood surface, a wooden box (for jewelry), or anything made of wood that they want.
Second, you will need acrylic colors, brushes, D-ring hangers, and a transfer tool or transfer paper. It depends on their age and your preference. If they are too young to use an electric iron like tool, go with the paper.
Third, choose a photo. A great photo idea is one of you together.
Fourth, if you are using the transfer tool, print that photo on regular paper. If you are using a transfer paper, print the photo on that paper.
Fifth, follow the instruction on the transfer tool or the transfer paper and help them transfer the photo on to the wooden surface.
Sixth, let them paint and color the wooden surface around the photo with the acrylic colors.
Last, but not least, help them put the D-ring hangers at the back of the surface so that they could hang it in their room.
One step forward….
If you want to make it even cooler, choose a wooden surface with a hole in the middle, get some clock hands, and help them put it on the wooden surface and then not only do they have a beautiful picture, but it’s also a clock. They can add numbers with the acrylic colors or even clock numerals that they can glue to the surface.
One of the best things about creative activities like this one is that you buy the materials once and it can last for a long time. The only things you need to buy again are different wooden surfaces.
