I realize I am sending this not VERY much after the fact but I think a great big sister gift is something that is appropriate for the age (i.e. it can't easily be used by the little one) yet safe, and keeps the big sister / brother occupied or focused so they feel special during what can be a hard time for siblings. For kids that are 3, I love an award winning toy called the Stomp Rocket. It's inexpensive (I believe it retails for about $15) can be set up by the child (which means mom or dad don't have to be involved), can be played with indoors and out - actually indoors can be better and is great for kids for many years. My daughter received on when she was about 3 1/2 and still plays with it at 7. It's also great for group play as it accommodates many ages.
