Stylish in the 50's?

After watching Alien Trespass, I realized how much we have changed since the 1950's fashion wise. The movie was set in 1957 so it captured the fashion and hair-do's from that era.
Women and men really used to dress to impress. You just don't see that too much anymore. What did you think of the fashion from the 50's?

My favorite fashions are from the 70's - a la Mary Tyler Moore. Everything she wore I would wear today. But then again, the fashions on Mad Men from the early 1960's are just amazing to look at. Women owned 6 dresses and that was it. Elegance was key.
