Dear Savvy Auntie,

What if my nephew, age 15, is addicted to Facebook? It affects his grades, and both his parents allow him to use it. And he won't "friend" any adults. Any advice?

Facebook Savvy Auntie

Dear Facebook Savvy Auntie,

The jury is still out among researchers about the benefits and/or harmful effects of teens on Facebook. Are you sure his lower grades are the result of his spending time online? Many times there are other causes. This topic should be discussed with his teachers by his parents. I support his not “friending” adults; there are many adults who prey on young people through social networks or games. Your concern is evidence of a generation gap that we (non-teens) share. However, it is the new “social life” for many kids and could be monitored and moderated by his parents.

Good Luck,
