Dear Savvy Auntie,

I am an aunt to three kids, two boys and a newborn girl. We don’t live to far away and my husband and I got over there once a month or so. They’re good kids and I like seeing them. The thing is, I see all these “Savvy Aunties” on this site all loving being an aunt, like it’s the most incredible feeling in the world. And while I love my brother’s kids, I can’t help but feel like I’m missing something.  I’m just not going crazy over them like most of the women on here do. Am I missing the Auntie gene or something?

Not Aunt Gene

Dear Not Aunt Gene,

Do not be concerned! Aunts come in all sizes, shapes and intensities. There are so many factors… your relationship to your brother and sister-in-law, your own family (you don’t mention if you have kids), your marriage and your own life’s passions. Love and relationships is not a one size fits all. If you want more you can make more; if not feel comfortable in your particular fit. Of course you are Aunt Gene!

Your size is just right for you.
