To each Auntie their own; being an aunt, whether by relation or by choice, can mean different things to different aunts. We posed the following question to the Facebook Auntourage: “AUNTIE UP! Back to Basics: To me, being an aunt (by relation or by choice) means______________”
It seems the Savvy Auntourage was in agreement in a few key ideas. Many Aunties included points about getting silly, their nieces and nephews being a gift, and being a support system for their nieces and nephews.
Aunties agreed that part of being an aunt means a time to get silly and fun.
Regina Stoltz: “Freedom to let the child out in me???
Laina K. Duffee: “Telling crazy stories, singing silly songs”
Cynthia Kiesling: “providing fun adventures”
Some described being an aunt as a privilege and a gift.
Ruth Tabakin: “Having the privilege of watching my nephews grow up into amazing men”
Randi Balaban: “The best gift I ever could receive”
Marsha Ann: “I got the best end of the deal!!!”
Other Aunties explained that being an aunt means being there for their nieces and nephews.
Allison Levie: “Making sure my nieces know I am there for them whenever they may need me.”
Toni LaShaun: “Being someone from whom my niece and nephews can get support, love and advice.”
Sue Helman: “Being that person they can come to for anything.”
