Grandparents Day is September 7!

Grandparents Day is Sunday, September 7. Here are seven ideas on how to celebrate and make it memorable for the grandparents - and your nieces and nephews:
1. Inspire nieces and nephews to create something homemade for their grandmas and grandpas. For the little ones, a handmade card or picture is always appreciated. Older kids can decorate a wood frame and include a photo of themselves with their grandparents. Or, they can create a short scrapbook with photos and funny, typical quotes their grandparents often say.
2. Throughout the year, grandparents usually do whatever they can show for their grandchildren—so remind your nieces and nephews to give their grandparents a call, or get on Skype, especially if they live far away.
3. Grandparents are usually known for having their grandchildren over for a weekend brunch or holiday dinner. If your nieces and nephews are older, encourage them to return the favor and cook dinner for their grandparents. Young kids can help you prepare the meal and create table decorations.
4. Take the family to the grandparents’ favorite restaurant. A gathering with close family members is exactly what grandparents need to know that they are loved and thought of.
5. Encourage grandparents to share their personal and family stories - yes, the ones you have heard probably a dozen times – especially if your nieces and nephews haven’t heard them. Chances are the children will remember these stories pass them on to their children and their nieces and nephews.
6. For grandparents who have passed away, consider offering words of remembrance about them at a family dinner.
7. Keep family traditions going. If you always celebrate Grandparents Day, keep doing it. And if this is your first time, then the tradition begins. Grandparents and grandkids will look forward to it each year, in part, thanks to you and your thoughtful efforts!
