    Also, a good resource for deaf and hard of hearing children/parents/aunts, etc is your state's deaf and hard of hearing commission. Every state has one, and is state funded. The purpose of these agencies is to educate and advocate.

    Actually hearing impaired is actually an old term that is rapidly fading away. The preferred term is Deaf/Hard of Hearing (DHH). Same with mental retardation, the perferred term now, if you must label them is Intellectual Disability (ID)

    correction - DIR/Floortime therapy stands for "Developmental, Individual Differences, Relationship-based approach" . Definitely no "indifference" in the name, yikes!

    IEP stands for individualized education plan... and is broader than just adaptive PE. it defines ALL the goals set for a child during the school year, as well as any special support needed to help achieve them.
