Did you know that May is National Salad Month? This holiday was founded in May of 1992 by The Association for Dressings and Sauces in response to a Gallup Poll which revealed that three-out-of-four people eat a tossed salad at least once every other day. Some might think that salads are often boring or lacking in flavor, but this doesn’t have to be the case. We’ve found five salads Savvy Aunties and your nieces and nephew will love. Show your savviness by trying some of these with your nieces and nephews; these salads may be their new favorite way of eating fruits and vegetables.
Farro Salad With Asparagus and Parmesan
This recipe by Duncan is “A light and delicious way to get your whole grains. Perfect salad for picnics, baby or bridal showers or just because!” Never tried farro before? Incorporate this new flavor into your next salad to make it more interesting.
Springtime Spinach Salad
Who says salads can’t be a little indulgent? This recipe by OZAHIRU, strawberries, spinach and other fresh fruits and vegetables are tossed with a small amount of bacon. It’s okay Auntie, we won’t tell!
Deliciously Sweet Salad with Maple, Nuts, Seeds, Blueberries and Goat Cheese
For the Auntie and nieces and nephews with a sweet tooth, this salad recipe by Monica is sure to satisfy that craving. Monica says, “This is my version, but can be varied in many different ways because it’s all about the dressing!” The dressing for this salad consists of white balsamic vinegar, maple syrup and grapeseed oil, so you can make the dressing as sweet as you want it to be.
Roasted Beet, Peach and Goat Cheese Salad
For the GourmAunt – a foodie Auntie – or for the Auntie that is feeling particularly adventurous, this recipe by Megancake is sure to impress your taste buds and any guests you might have over.
Fruit Salad
No recipe needed for this one! Get your favorite (or their favorite) seasonal fruits, chop them up and toss into a bowl. Fruit salads make for a healthy and delicious snack, and your nieces and nephews can help out in making the salad as well.
