Here are five of our favorite rainy day activities and crafts for school age nieces and nephews.
Indoor Mazes/Escape Rooms
Escape rooms are all the rage right now—and not just for kids! You and your nieces and nephews can check local listings for an indoor maze or escape room. Work together to figure out the clues to try and escape in the limited amount of time you have.
Origami Arts and Crafts
Instead of the usual painting or coloring, you can always try a new craft. Origami is a great way to test your artistic and creative skills. You and your nieces or nephews can start out with simple origami, such as: sailboats, ladybugs, a bird, or a horse.
Movement Video Games: Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort
Rainy days can stink because kids can’t go outside and burn off some steam. They have so much energy when it comes to play—so here’s a way they can still exercise, even on a rainy day! You can incorporate video games and exercise together. If you have a Wii, Wii sports and sports resort, is a perfect way to still get yourself moving and working out, even when you can’t go outside. It offers tons of unique sports, too, including bowling, archery, table tennis and wakeboarding.
Make Sock Puppets and Host Your Own Puppet Show
Not only is this a fun arts and crafts project to do with your nieces or nephews, it’s a great activity as well! Make your own sock puppets any way you want, and then use them to create your own puppet show for your friends and family.
Indoor Obstacle Course
Another way to get yourself moving is to create your own indoor obstacle course! Use items around the household to create obstacles and hurdles to jump over and get through. It gets you and your nieces and nephews thinking creatively, and also teaches them how to problem-solve by getting around their course.
