16 Ways to Have Fun Indoors with Kids
By Alvina Brown
Has the snow got you stuck inside? Are you trying to figure out what to do? A snow day or weekend snowy day is any kid’s (and adult’s) dream day; why not make the best out of it? With a little thought and imagination, you can use snow days to do pretty much anything.
Check out a few of these ideas to keep you and the little ones active and away from boredom!
1. Go outside and perfect that snow man. Follow these steps and you’ll be on your way! Feeling ambitious? Try one of these awesome sculptures.
2. An oldie but a goodie, make hot chocolate! Whether you are a Swiss Miss mixer or a homemade cocoa maker, hot chocolate is perfect on a snow day. Try some of these recipes! Any one of them is perfect for a day inside.
3. Bake cookies. Nothing’s better than the house smelling like homemade cookies (and hot chocolate). Bring your nieces and nephews in the kitchen and let them help you. (Kitchen tip: Use an ice cream scooper to scoop cookie batter evenly on a baking sheet).
4. Get a head start on Valentine’s Day. Gather your nieces and nephews and bust out the construction paper and markers. Check out Crafty Morning’s list of heart-inspired crafts.
5. Skype with a friend or family member. Snow days are perfect days to sit down and talk to someone far away. Say hello to their Great-Aunt in Florida!
6. Have a game-a-thon. Pull out the board games, word puzzles, and coloring books and see how long you can go playing games without stopping.
7. Netflix binge. Seriously, nothing gets better than sitting with your nieces and nephews and watching movies and favorite TV shows. Try these popcorn recipes to snack on, too.
8. Story time. Whether it’s a family story, a book read aloud, or something make believe, grab some blankets and pillows and pile up on the floor for a good listen.
9. Have a dance party. Blast some music and get the blood flowing. Let the kids be DJ!
10. Indulge in comfort food. Get that big pot out and have your nieces and nephews make some yummy. Try this chili recipe, chicken noodle soup or one of these one pot wonders.
11. Catch up on homework. It’s not the most fun thing on this list, but it’s necessary. Help your nieces and nephews out with their homework so you can tackle some of these ideas.
12. Play hide and seek. Take turns playing. For a twist, try turning off all the lights and playing flash light tag.
13. Have a scavenger hunt. Take inventory of everything you have around the house, make a list, and send them off to find everything.
14. Indoor Bowling. Take empty plastic soda bottles and place them in rows down a hallway. Fill some of them up with water to make it challenging. Knock them over with any type of ball.
15. Have a girl day. Do the works like face masks, massages and nail painting. Try some of these natural face masks to put on one another.
16. Have an indoor car wash. Gather up your nephews’ and nieces’ toy cars, trucks, and spaceships for a wash job that'll put any carwash to shame. Load them all into the sink and give them a good cleaning.
These are just a few of the activities that can be done on a snow day. Have a Pinterest you want to tackle? Do it! Has your niece been begging to do your hair? Let them! Has your nephew started building a fort in your living room? Go hang out with him in it. Leave a comment below and let us know what you and your nieces and nephews enjoy doing on a snow day.
