I hate mother's day

That sounds radical but let me tell you why...my mother died of colon cancer when I was 21, leaving behind 10 children. I don't have any children...and yet I am bombarded each year by mother's day ads. When my lovely mother-in-law was alive at least I had a reason to go out and celebrate but every time they gave me a rose at dinner and said "Happy Mother's day," I felt like a little bit of my soul was stolen.
I heard that my late father used to send cards on Mother's Day to my five sisters who all had children so this year I did it, since he passed away. It made me feel good to do something positive, but I wish people would be a little more sensitive. Not everyone in this world is a mother...some by choice, some by circumstances, but no matter what it stings when the world is celebrating a holiday while you're mourning your mother, mother-in-law-a second mother to me, and lack of children.
This year my Aunt Ruth, my namesake, is barely hanging onto life so her daughter is visiting her in Minnesota. The thought often crosses my mind that I won't have children to visit me if I am lucky enough to live to be 95. I adore my nieces and nephews but whether they will find time in their busy schedules to see their Aunt Ruthi when they are older remains to be seen.
Right now I am taking advantage of the fact that I have 15 nieces and nephews to spoil and take on trips around the world.
But please, advertisers, restaurants, shops, not everyone has a mother or is a mother.
